Sveti Andrija is a fortress superbly placed high above Perast, along the Montenegro Coastal Transversal route. The hike starts from the village of Orahovac with a gradual climb on an old Austro-Hungarian road dating from 1880. The path weaves through small forests, past old military posts and around remains of villages offering impressive views of Boka Bay to reach the fortress at approx. 750 meters above sea level. After taking in the panoramic views the descent zigzags steeply along a ruined horse path to the picturesque town of Perast with glimpses of the towns islands of ‘Sv. Djordje’ (Monastery) and ‘Gospa od Skrpelja’ (Our Lady of the Rock) being seen along the way.
This is a moderate to hard hike for people of all ages, including families with teenage children. The hike takes approximately 5-6 hours, with regular stops for photographs & breaks and during the summer months it is best to start early in the morning.
