Whilst Subra is not the highest peak within Orjen it is the most impressive. The Subra peak hike commences on a gravel track to reach the mountain hut ‘Za Vratlom’. After a short refreshment break at the hut, the hike continues over Kameska Ravan (rock valley) & through a birch forest. Depending on the time of the year, the variety of wild flowers and organic herbs will provide a beautiful pallet of colors and smells. The hike continues towards ‘Subra plato’ (a unique lime stone formation) & after several steep inclines the impressive Subra peak at 1679 meters above sea level is reached. On a clear day several ridges further inside Montenegro can be seen, as well as views of the neighboring countries (Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina) , some of the islands of the Adriatic Sea & underneath Subra an amazing stone “amphitheater” where cliffs drop for several hundred meters on three sides. After taking in these spectacular views we will retrace our footsteps.
This is a moderate to difficult hike for people aged 16 years +. The hike takes approximately 6 - 7 hours, with regular stops for photographs & breaks and during the summer months it is best to start early in the morning.
